| | Balaramapuram in Thiruvananthapuram District is one of the main handloom centres in India. The Balaramapuram Sarees and its unique lace weaving technique do have its own entity. Lakhs of weavers at Balaramapuram engaged in the Industry to earn their livelihood. But insufficiency of technological support hinders their way for advancements and achievements and also for better earnings. Establishment of a technology centre to impart better training and to provide technology up gradation to the Industry will help to remove the hindrances to some extent

| | Implementation Process
i.Documentation and Creation of Design Library
The main intension of the scheme is to give heritage and ethnic identity to the Balaramapuram Lace Weaving Craft. For this it is indispensable to create a design library comprising of heritage art forms, motifs, design etc
ii. Training to Weavers in Balaramapuram Lace Weaving Craft
The Weavers will be trained in the use of newly developed heritage design for Balaramapuram Lace Weaving Craft. New products in Balaramapuram Lace Weaving Craft with various permutations and combination of designs will be produced by the trainees during this period.
iii. Training in Value Addition
The trainees will be categorized and trained in embroidery, block printing and stone and other decorative works

| | The ability, skill and creativity of the master weavers in Kerala has been appreciated by National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Delhi, Chennai and Indian Institute of Handloom Technology (IIHT), Salem and others who have visited the handloom sector of Kerala. Visitors from famous and prestigious institution n our country always appreciated the capability and skill level of weavers in our state. No thoughts or effort has been made so far to equip the master weavers and dyers to gain confidence in their own skill to an effective level for starting their own production units. They are like "beautiful flowers that wastes its fragrance in the dessert air". Nobody to be watchful at them, to show them or to take them to a advanced stage to equip themselves to reach into the level of organising their own production units to levitate the handloom craft from deterioration and to generate more employment potential to the promising young generation
