To
arrange short and long term training programmes on weaving, dyeing,
designing, printing of handloom fabrics.
To undertake, aid, promote and co-ordinate research and development
activities on all aspects of handloom industry.
To publish research papers, books and periodicals and undertake and
assist in the organization of conferences, seminars, workshops and
lectures in matters connected with the above.
To establish and maintain libraries including
Fabric/screens/blocks/literature etc..
To provide laboratory facilities for testing, raw materials,
consumables and finished goods etc..
To conduct short term courses on management, productivity, allied
subjects etc. for the benefit of the managerial persons and
supervisory staff employed in the Handloom Industry.
To work in collaboration with other industries, organizations,
associations and societies established for the development of
Handloom Industry.
In order to achieve these objectives Institute of Handloom and
Textile technology, for the last 10 years, has been conducting short
term courses in weaving and designing, dyeing, silk weaving, special
training in jacquard weaving technology, fabric printing etc. The
training activities are conducted on a need based programme, so as
to contribute skilled workers to the industry. Further, Institute
has conducted seminars on ISO 9000,management orientation programmes,
demonstration programme on Eco friendly dying, applications of
natural dyes, workshop on tapestry and art weaving ,technology
upgradation programme.
Thus, today Institute of Handloom and Textile technology under the
guidance of illustrious governing body and technical experts with
foresight and far reaching vision has been in the forefront of
innovations in technical education of Handloom and Textile Industry
in the state.
LOCATION
Institute is situated in a premises of
4.13 acres of land and a building capacity of 3804 square meters
enroute to National Highway from Kannur to Thalassery at
Kizhunna,Thottada,8kms away from District Head Quarters, Kannur. The
participants and trainees find the calm and peaceful atmosphere of
the campus, highly conducive for study and introspection. It is a
perfect heaven for retreat, providing a refreshing change from the
normal work-day surroundings.
